The City's trash and recycling contractor G. Mello is reporting that there was a fire this morning at the company's transfer station located in Georgetown, MA. There are no reported injuries, but the fire caused severe damage to the facility. The transfer station will be closed for the rest of the week.
G. Mello does not expect any disruption in regular collection service to Amesbury residents. However, the following services will be unavailable to Amesbury residents for the duration of the transfer stations' closure:
*Bulk item drop-off
*White goods drop-off
*Construction material drop-off
*Direct drop-off of trash/recycling at the transfer station
Residents who have registered for curbside collection of a bulk item (with a pink sticker) or white goods item (with a yellow sticker) will still have their collection as scheduled. Residents seeking additional information are encouraged to contact Laurie Pierce of the Amesbury DPW at 978-388-8116.
