West Nile Virus and EEE
The Public Health Nurse functions include investigation of certain diseases such as whooping cough, meningitis, chickenpox, hepatitis, Lyme disease, etc., to control the spread of dangerous diseases. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health Reportable Diseases and Isolation and Quarantine Requirements ( 105 CMR 300 ) provide standards for response to cases of certain diseases. Each fall, a series of flu clinics are provided to protect against the current strains of flu. These clinics are usually held middle to late October with the exact dates published in local newspapers, on the Town's Calendar of Events and on local cable access.

Medical and Dental Bills
Any Amesbury resident who is having difficulty paying unexpected medical and dental bills due to financial hardship can submit the bills to the Amesbury Health Care Trust Commission. An application can be mailed or obtained through the Mayor’s Office, Veteran Agent, Senior Center and other locations throughout town.
Potassium Iodide
The State has issued guidelines on how the public will obtain KI pills in case of a radioactive plume emanating from Seabrook. At the present time, KI pills are stored at the public schools for dispensing and some doses are available at Emergency Management. Please contact Emergency Management at 388-8161 for assistance.
The State Department of Public Health maintains up-to-date information on West Nile Virus and EEE on their website. Dead bird reports may be called in by citizens to the state hotline at (866) MASS-WNV / (866) 627-7968. Birds are no longer collected by the Health Department unless directed by the State. Citizens can dispose of dead birds in the regular trash by using plastic bags for pickup and disposal.
