Mission
To provide social, physical, recreational, educational and cultural programs and opportunities to Amesbury’s youth at an affordable cost. The Youth Department consists of the Youth Director, Kathy Crowley and part time seasonal program counselors/instructors.
Amesbury offers over 30 different summer programs to choose from for ages 3 and up. Please see summer brochure for extensive list.
Camp Kent Environmental Center
Visit the Town owned nature center for a hike, animal tracking, kayaking, fishing or one of the free monthly family programs offered.Summer Environmental Programs are offered and include nature based learning activities, scavenger hunts, outdoor skills, kayaking, archery and a low elements challenge course.
Lake Gardner Beach
The Youth Department is responsible for hiring and scheduling life guards from the last week in June through Labor Day. Lifeguards work from 9:30 to 5:30. Look for Lake Gardner Family Fun Day in June.
Elementary Before and After-School Programs
Before School (7-8:30) and After School (3-6 pm) are held at the Amesbury Elementary School and at Cashman Elementary School, Monday – Friday through the school year. Programs offer snack, homework assistance, reading rewards, sports, arts and crafts, games, and more!
Middle School After-School Adventure Program (grades 5 and 6)
This program is held at the Amesbury Middle School from 2:30pm-5:30pm, Mon.- Fri. and offers homework assistance, sports, arts, field trips, off grounds activities such as swimming, kayaking, golf, archery, cooking and more.
Act Up Theater classes- learn Acting, Crafting, Technical production and Up with Performance are offered after school during the school year and in the summer we have the STAR Program: Summer Theater Arts Recreation.
Youth programs are subsidized by program fees and grants. No taxpayer dollars are spent on these programs.
