Crime Prevention & Community Policing
Welcome |
|
Hello and welcome to the Crime Prevention & Community Policing page of the Amesbury Police Department. The Amesbury Police Department is dedicated to working with community partners to help make Amesbury a safer and better City. Since 1996, department members have worked closely with several community members, including civic groups, local businesses, government agencies, churches, neighborhoods, seniors, schools, media and more. As a result, problems have been solved, the public informed and issues that affect our community addressed. We try to provide tips and services to help keep residents and guests safer. Although not every crime can be prevented, it is our hope to provide useful information that will reduce the chances a resident may become a victim. Amesbury is a small, quiet city but not immune from the problems and challenges facing society today.
Since June of 1996, the Amesbury Police Department and Amesbury News have been partners with the "Watchwords" column. This weekly newspaper article is written by the Crime Prevention Officer and features crime prevention information, safety tips, current happenings and much more. Previous issues of the "Watchwords" column will also be featured here as well.
The Crime Prevention & Community Policing Page will feature information about community policing programs and events as well. Police personnel play an active role in our community to address other concerns. We work closely with Our Neighbor’s Table to provide food and services to those in need. Since 2003, the "Relay For Life of Amesbury" has raised money and awareness for the work of The American Cancer Society and the fight against cancer. Partnerships are also in place with the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center to address domestic violence issues, the Chamber of Commerce to protect the interests of our business community and the Amesbury Public School System to promote the welfare of our youth. One of the longest running partnerships exists with the Council on Aging, as we work to prevent scams and crimes against older residents.
Check back regularly, as there’s always something happening and be sure to visit the crime prevention and safety links too.
Tom Hanshaw, Crime Prevention Officer
