Motor Vehicle Abatements  


Motor Vehicle Abatement Application

An application must be signed and submitted to the Assessor's Office with the required supporting documentation in order to be considered for an abatement on your Motor Vehicle Excise Tax.  All requests without the completed signed application and required supporting documentation will be returned.

You are not entitled to an abatement if you cancel your registration and retain ownership of the vehicle or move to another Massachusetts city/town during the same calendar year.

Applications for abatement must be received by the Board of Assessors within three (3) years after the excise tax was due or one year after the excise was paid, whichever is later.  To preserve your right to appeal, you must file on time.

No abatement of less than $5.00 will be granted and refund of less than $5.00 will me made.
