Winter Parking Ban

DECEMBER 1, 2009 - APRIL 1, 2010

Police Chief Michael A. Cronin and Public Works Director, Robert Desmarais, would like to remind residents that the annual winter parking ban will take effect in Amesbury on FRIDAY DECEMBER 1, 2009.

All vehicles must be parked off the street between the hours of 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM to facilitate the storm operations of the Department of Public Works. Any vehicle remaining on the street will be subject to a parking violation and/or towing at the owner’s expense. The winter parking ban violation fine is $50.00.

Vehicles are also prohibited from parking overnight in Municipal Lots, including Friend St., Main St., Water St., and School St., behind the Public Library.

Residents living within the Central Business District must obtain a parking permit at the Town Clerk’s Office in Town Hall. There is no fee for the permit. To obtain a parking permit, residents must present their driver’s license and vehicle registration, which shows an address within the Central Business District. Once the permit is obtained, it must be affixed to the LOWER LEFT CORNER OF THE BACK WINDSHIELD..

During an actual SNOW EMERGENCY, announcements will be broadcast over local radio and television stations, including WNBP 1450 AM. Should a SNOW EMERGENCY be declared by the Mayor’s Office, all vehicles must be removed from City streets, regardless of the hour.

Questions concerning the winter parking ban may be directed to Mr. Desmarais, Director of Public Works, at 978-388-8116 or to the Shift Supervisor on duty at the Amesbury Police Department, 978-388-1217.

THE WINTER PARKING BAN IS IN EFFECT UNTIL APRIL 1, 2010
