Growing Friendships

An intergenerational partnership between the Amesbury Senior Center and the Cashman Elementary School. The program connects children and seniors in ongoing activities. Through "Growing Friendships", children will have the opportunity to gain wisdom from and nurture a relationship with an older adult.

In May 2016, the Cashman Elementary School 3rd Graders learned about the flower life cycle and grew their own flowers at the Newton Greenhouse! During the field trip to the Greenhouse, the seniors and 3rd graders had the wonderful opportunity to video chat through Skype. The seniors watched the children planting and learning LIVE! On June 10th 2016, the 3rd Graders School came to the Amesbury Senior Community Center to paint, plant, and play. We painted our hands on the Kids as Peacemakers Billboards, planted flowers in our flowerbeds, and played Go Noodle. We also had a visit from our therapy dog Orla, sidewalk chalk and arts and crafts. Thank you to Flatbread for Donating Pizza to our event. Click the link below to watch a video montage of the day!
