Overview

City of Amesbury Massachusetts Incorporated 1668The Amesbury Municipal Contributory Retirement System is one of 104 contributory retirement systems for public employees within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

All 104 systems, although operating independently are bound together under one uniform retirement law, Chapter 32 of the Massachusetts General Laws. Chapter 32 establishes benefit contribution requirements, accounting, and funding structure for the system. The Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC) created by Chapter 306 of Acts of 1996 oversees these systems and ensures all board actions are in compliance with Chapter 32.

The Amesbury Retirement System is administered by a five-member board, consisting of two elected members, one member appointed by the Mayor, the Chief Financial Officer who serves as an ex-officio member, and one member who is appointed by the other four members.

Job Title:   Retirement Administrator

The Amesbury Retirement Board is seeking an experienced, well-qualified professional for the position of Administrator.  The Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day management and efficient operation of the Amesbury Retirement System in compliance with M.G.L. Chapter 32 and PERAC regulations.

The Administrator is responsible for implementing and overseeing policies and procedures under the direction of the five-member Amesbury Retirement Board.   The Administrator manages the daily operation of the Retirement System; is responsible for administration, operations, accounting, payroll, and record keeping.  The Administrator is also responsible for the education and counseling of members of the system from initial entrance to retirement/separation of the member.

Desirable qualifications include a working knowledge of M.G.L. Chapter 32; experience in administration and finance; knowledge of fiscal, personnel and administrative management systems.  Associates/Bachelor degree preferred.
