Cultural Council

Mission

The Amesbury Cultural Council is a group of City-appointed volunteers who help fund, promote, facilitate, and improve access to cultural activities and the arts in Amesbury and surrounding communities. We are the City's Local Cultural Council (LCC) as defined by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Programs & Initiatives

Cultural Grants

The Amesbury Cultural Council solicits grant requests, selects recipients, and awards funds made available annually from the Massachusetts Cultural Council for artistic and cultural projects and programs in and around Amesbury. 

 Amesbury Open Studios & More

For over 25 years, the Cultural Council has organized the annual city-wide Amesbury Open Studios tour.

 Art@City Hall

The City of Amesbury welcomes the Cultural Council in maintaining a rotating community gallery in the lobby of City Hall. On view Monday–Friday during business hours. 

 Public Art Initiatives

The Cultural Council partners with the City of Amesbury to enhance and enliven public spaces with art. 

 Poet Laureate Program

In partnership with the John Greenleaf Whittier Home, the Amesbury Cultural Council supports the local Poet Laureate program. The position is selected by a committee of peers for a two-year role hosting remote and in-person events throughout the year. Many of those events take place during Poetry Month every April.
