Community & Economic Development

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, Governor Baker issued an Executive Order No. 591 declaring a State of Emergency.

Given the circumstances and recommendations at both the state and federal levels to limit and avoid public gatherings, including Governor Baker’s ban on gatherings of more than 10 people, together with the closure of Amesbury City Hall and other public buildings to the public, our staff will be working remotely. Please email staff and allow for delayed response times. Please check here for any changes to our office's normal functions.

The Office of Community and Economic Development works to foster economic vitality, to preserve and enhance neighborhoods, quality of life and the environment, and to promote equity and opportunity for all residents of Amesbury.

Our Department moves complex projects forward toward meeting these objectives. Combined, our staff represents over 75-years of experience. Dedication by experienced staff has led to the development, review, and implementation of the projects listed to the left and as listed on the Planning Board page. Our staff effectively works with a myriad of organizations such as: the City Council, Boards, Commissions, Committees, Residents, and Businesses. Managing the demands of a constant development stream and creating opportunities through innovative programs is only possible with our dedicated and experienced staff.

The OCED staff manages the permitting processes for the Planning Board, and Zoning Board of Appeals.  We also serve as staff to multiple committees to assist in project management and implementation. Economic Development is a forefront objective; current projects are listed on links to the left.
