Amesbury Housing Rehabilitation Program (CDBG)

Program Overview

The City of Amesbury's Office of Community and Economic Development (OCED) administers the Amesbury Housing Rehabilitation Program designed to assist homeowners in their efforts to repair and improve their residential properties throughout the City. The Program provides deferred-payment loans of up to $35,000, as well as technical assistance, to rehabilitate residential building with 1 to 4 units. Funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) Program. The program requires that loan funds be directed to rehabilitation projects that serve low- and moderate-income households.

The Amesbury Housing Rehab Program assists qualified low- and moderate-income property owners in making necessary repairs, such as:

  • Correction of hazardous conditions
  • Correction of building code violations
  • Repair or replacement of walls, ceilings, windows and doors
  • Heating systems replacement
  • Electrical and plumbing repairs
  • Repairing roofs, siding, and gutters
  • Handicap access ramps and decks

Eligible applicants are property owners meeting low- and moderate-income guidelines who reside in one- to four-family dwellings. To be considered eligible, household gross annual income cannot exceed the level listed below for the household size of each dwelling:

As part of the technical assistance that the City of Amesbury provides to property owners for the Rehab Program, OCED manages a list of licensed and insured contractors to complete the eligible rehabilitation work. We are currently updating our list of qualified contractors interested in performing housing rehabilitation work in the City. We invite interested contractors to apply. Minority and Women Business Enterprises are encouraged to participate.
