School Committee Names Superintendent Finalists

The Amesbury School Committee has named three finalists who will move to the next round of interviews for Superintendent of Amesbury Public Schools.

The three finalists are:

  • Elizabeth McAndrews, Acting Superintendent of Amesbury Public Schools
  • Frank Tiano, Superintendent of Uxbridge Public Schools
  • Stephen Zadravec, Superintendent of Portsmouth School Department

Abigail Jurist Levy, School Committee member and a member of the Superintendent Search Committee said, “Amesbury is fortunate to have three finalists who each offer a unique set for experience, knowledge and talent. Our students, teachers and community would be well-served by any of these candidates.”

Elizabeth McAndrews is the current Acting Superintendent of Amesbury Public Schools, assuming the position in October 2020. McAndrews has worked in the Amesbury Public Schools system since 2006, first as Dean of Students / Activities / Athletic Director, then as Assistant Principal of Amesbury High School beginning in 2011, and finally as Principal of Amesbury High School since 2016. McAndrews has a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Dartmouth College and a Master’s Degree in Arts and Teaching from Boston University.

Frank Tiano, Ed.D is the current Superintendent of Uxbridge Public Schools, beginning in 2018. Prior to that, Tiano was Assistant Superintendent for Framingham Public Schools (2015-2018). He worked for the Chelmsford Public Schools system from 2000 to 2015, starting as an Elementary School Principal, moving to Middle School Principal, Assistant Superintendent and finally Superintendent. Tiano holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Management from Bentley College, a Master’s Degree in Teaching / Elementary from Simmons College and a Doctor of Education from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Stephen J. Zadravec is the current Superintendent of the Portsmouth School Department as well as an Adjunct Professor at Southern New Hampshire University. Prior to that, he was Assistant Superintendent in Portsmouth (2005-2015), Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Professional Development for School Administrative Unit 39 (2002-2005). Zadravec holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Social Science from Keene State College, a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Plymouth State University and a Doctor of Education from Southern New Hampshire University.

Meet & Greet / Q&A Public Forums
As part of the Amesbury Superintendent Search process there will be a series of three community Meet & Greet/Q&A forums the public is welcome to attend. These opportunities to meet the 3 finalists for Amesbury Superintendent will take place in the Amesbury High School Auditorium beginning Monday, May 3rd. The public is welcome to attend in-person or participate virtually by viewing and asking questions utilizing the live broadcast on the
school’s Facebook page

This week members of the School Committee are visiting the districts of the finalists (Amesbury, Uxbridge and Portsmouth) to hear from stakeholders in those communities. Next week, the finalists will visit Amesbury. The School Committee expects to vote on the Superintendent appointment at a special meeting on Thursday, May 6
