Compost Information & Application

Compost & Brush Facility

Annual stickers allow dumping of unlimited quantities of leaves, grass trimmings, and brush. Brush is defined as branches 1 inch to 3 inches in diameter and over 1 foot long. Brush must be separate and put in a different pile at the compost site.

Dumping of stumps, fencing, building materials, food and plastic bags is not permitted.

The compost facility is scheduled to open on Thursday, April 6, 2023, weather permitting.

April 6 - Oct 22, 2023 Thursday - Sunday Noon to 4:00 pm

Oct 26 - December 3 Thursday & Friday Noon to 4:00 pm, Saturday & Sunday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

*Please note that the site is closed on: Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Veteran's Day, and Thanksgiving (this includes the Friday following Thanksgiving also)*


Update: Saturday, December 2nd and Sunday, December 3rd, a compost sticker will not be required for Amesbury residents. Anyone from outside Amesbury or operating commercially, a sticker will be required.

Sticker Purchase

Amesbury senior citizens (65+) may obtain one sticker, free of charge, for their own vehicle.

Compost Sticker Purchase Available Beginning March 1st, 2023:

We cannot accept credit or debit card payments. Payment can be made with cash or check; made payable to City of Amesbury. Please do not mail cash.  We strongly encourage downloading the application (PDF) and filling it out prior to bringing it to the office. 

Walk-In

Bring the application form (PDF) along with a copy of your vehicle registration and purchase a sticker at the DPW office, or in the Treasurer's Office at City Hall.

Mail-In

Application form (PDF), copy of your vehicle registration, check, and self-addressed stamped envelope to:

Pick-Up

Stickers will not be mailed without a self-addressed stamped envelope. They will be held at the DPW office for pick-up. 

Please place stickers on driver's side of windshield, opposite inspection sticker.

City Rights2023 Compost Sticker

The City reserves the right to:

  • Issue fines for unauthorized dumping
  • Refuse material if quality or quantity is questionable
  • Close the compost site at any time without prior notice, or make changes to the schedule without prior notice
